Private and Semi Private Lessons

What are private lessons?

Private lessons are one-on-one instructions sessions with a professional coach or a junior coach, although some coaches will do semi private lessons of up to 3 skaters.  During private lessons the skater is given detailed and personalized attention geared towards increasing skating skills and ability.

At the beginning level, private lessons are most effective as a supplement to the learn to skate program.  While it is possible for private lessons to be the only method of learning to skate that is rare and not encouraged.  Group classes offer a tremendous financial savings over the cost of private lessons.  Private lessons are $35 per half hour of instruction plus the cost of ice, $15 per hour.  Once skaters enter the higher or competitive levels, many skaters increase the number and length of their private lessons.

The coaches here at the Skatium offer both private and small group lessons.  They are scheduled directly with the coach of your choice, feel free to try out all of them.  Please contact the coach directly to schedule private and semi-private lessons.

Why do private lessons?

All children are different and all children learn different. Some children thrive in a group setting where they can socialize and be motivated by peer pressure while others get bored or scared causing their progress to slow down or even stop. Sometimes a skater needs a little bit of extra help with one or two elements to move up to the next level. Sometimes a skater wants to skate in shows and competitions. Some skaters find that individual instruction is the best way to fine tune their skating skills. Regardless of the reason, private lessons can be a great place to turn. Group lessons provide the basis for figure skating but private lessons allow skaters to really grow and it opens up opportunities to participate in both shows and competitions. Private lessons are booked directly with the coach of your choice. For more information on private lessons contact the Skating Director, Lisa Headen at 239-321-7516.

All of our full time staff instructors are professional Members of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI), Professional Skaters Association (PSA), and US Figure Skating (USFS).  They have all be background checked by the USFS association as well as PSA.

Private lesson fees are paid directly to the instructor and do not include the cost of ice time. Ice time is paid directly to the Fort Myers Skatium prior to the start of the lesson. Every skating attending freestyle must sign into the freestyle book prior to entering the ice.  New freestyle skaters must also attend a class and learn the rules of freestyle.
